A note about Septic's

The ground is saturated with all the snow and rain this winter has brought. Before it will evaporate or run off, it will sit in the ground. The septic tank is built to disperse its wastewater through the drainage field which extends from the box into the ground like a hand with extended fingers. Stress on the Septic system results when the ground is saturated and the system cannot get rid of its water. There can be back up and then damage to the system.

A homeowner can help avoid damage by a very conservative use of house water. For the next few weeks, until the earth has thawed and then dried, homeowners can act to protect septic systems by reducing use of water.
